MEXICO NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM

The Mexico national football team (Spanish: Selección de fútbol de México) represents Mexico in international football, governed by the Mexican Football Federation (Federación Mexicana de Fútbol). Competing in CONCACAF, Mexico has qualified for 17 World Cups, including a streak since 1994, and reached the quarter-finals in 1970 and 1986 as the host. As the most successful team in CONCACAF history, Mexico boasts 12 confederation titles, including nine CONCACAF Gold Cups and has also won the 1999 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Historically, Mexico's football was influenced by European immigrants in the early 20th century, with the national team debuting against Guatemala in 1923. The team participated in the first World Cup in 1930 and saw varying success until hosting the World Cup in 1970 and 1986, reaching the quarter-finals both times. In recent years, Mexico won the 2015 and 2019 Gold Cups and automatically qualified for the 2026 World Cup as co-host. Despite some setbacks, including a disappointing 2022 World Cup performance, Mexico remains a dominant force in CONCACAF and an important player on the global stage.
