The project's expenses totaled nearly $300 million, with construction being a component of the Townsville City Deal in December 2016. Positioned in proximity to the city, this stadium plays a crucial role in the area's urban renewal initiative.

In December 2019, the naming rights for the stadium were secured by Queensland Country Bank, a financial services firm based in Townsville. The construction of the facility was a joint effort involving the Townsville City Council, the Queensland Government, and the Australian Government, each contributing to the project.

Assistance also came from the National Rugby League and the North Queensland Cowboys themselves!

The stadium witnessed its inaugural NRL premiership match in 2020, featuring a heated showdown between bitter state rivals, the North Queensland Cowboys and the Brisbane Broncos, marking the season's opening match.

Jake Turpin claimed the honor of scoring the first try on the field, followed by Jamayne Isaako securing the first goal, and Michael Morgan making history with the inaugural field goal. Despite their efforts, the home team fell short, with the Brisbane Broncos seizing victory at 28–21.
