Where Is Rod Laver Arena?

Rod Laver Arena is the centrepiece of the Melbourne and Olympic Parks precinct. The venue was built in 1985 to replace Kooyong Stadium and is the point around which several other stadiums, including John Cain Arena and Margaret Court Arena, are situated.

The entire precinct is located on Olympic Boulevard, just a short stroll from the CBD.  

How Do I Get to Rod Laver Arena?

Making your way to Rod Laver Arena couldn’t be easier, whether you’re headed to the stadium to catch the world’s best tennis stars in action or are looking forward to seeing your favourite comedian.

For public transport, your best option is either train or tram. Rod Laver Arena is within walking distance of three major train stations — Jolimont, Richmond, and Flinders Street, meaning you have options regardless of where in the city you are coming from.

For tram passengers, the precinct is surrounded by tram stops that are best suited for those coming from the city and Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.

If you prefer driving to the venue, there are parking options. However, venue parking is limited, and it’s recommended that you book ahead to avoid disappointment. Rideshare and taxi drop-off and pick-up zones are also available close to the precinct. 

Where Can I Park at Rod Laver Arena?

Parking is available within the precinct. The Eastern Plaza Carpark can be accessed via Entrance D on Olympic Boulevard. Drive-up spaces are likely to be limited, so it’s a good idea to book ahead.

If parking spots have sold out, there are several private and public car spaces operating in close proximity to the precinct, most notably, Yarra Park surrounding the MCG. 

How Many People Does Rod Laver Arena Hold?

The seating capacity of Rod Laver Arena is approximately 14,820, although this can be extended slightly depending on the sport being played. Basketball, for example, doesn’t require quite as much court space as tennis, and seats can be added.
