Where Is Marvel Stadium?

Marvel Stadium is the heart of Melbourne’s Docklands precinct, which is located within the CBD. 

Prior to the opening of Marvel Stadium in 2000, Docklands was a largely deserted industrial area. Developers were keen to turn the area into a thriving hub and saw building a stadium as the perfect opportunity. 

Few stadiums at the time had the advantages of what was then known as Victoria Stadium, including a retractable roof and moveable seating. Essendon and Port Adelaide played the first AFL match there in 2000, and Barbara Streisand performed the first concert only a short week later.

From that point onwards, Marvel Stadium has remained an integral part of the Docklands precinct.

How Do I Get to Marvel Stadium?

Few venues are as centrally located as Marvel Stadium. The ground is parked right at the bottom of Bourke Street, which runs straight through the heart of Melbourne. 

Marvel Stadium is located next to Southern Cross Stadium, which is part of the city loop that services all of Melbourne’s train lines. When it comes to trams, you have several options available from all directions.

Those who prefer to drive to the ground also have plenty of options, with 2500 car parks available at the dedicated undercover car park and plenty of other public and private garages within walking distance. 

Where Can I Park at Marvel Stadium?

Planning to drive to the game? There are countless parking options available to you.

Most patrons find parking available at the dedicated undercover Marvel Stadium car park, which can hold up to 2500 cars. The stadium does recommend booking ahead of time to avoid disappointment.

Additional car parks are located at the South Wharf DFO shopping centre and in surrounding privately owned secure garages. 

How Many People Does Marvel Stadium Hold?

For AFL games, which is the primary event type held at Marvel Stadium, the capacity of the venue sits at approximately 55,000.

However, the stadium can be reconfigured as required for other sporting events, like soccer matches, as well as large-scale concerts. British singer Adele played at Marvel in 2017 to a crowd of just over 77,000. 

Over four consecutive nights in 2018, Ed Sheeran played to a total audience of 257,751, which is no small feat!
