Aryna Sabalenka, born on May 5, 1998, is a Belarusian tennis star currently ranked world No. 1 in singles by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA). She has claimed three major singles titles at the 2023 and 2024 Australian Opens and the 2024 US Open, along with two major doubles titles at the 2019 US Open and 2021 Australian Open, both partnering Elise Mertens. Sabalenka first gained recognition in 2017 by helping Belarus reach the Fed Cup final and has since secured 23 career titles, including 17 in singles. Her rise to the top of tennis has been marked by powerful performances and an aggressive playing style.
Known for her strong serve and hard-hitting groundstrokes, Sabalenka plays an aggressive baseline game, often delivering high numbers of winners but also unforced errors. She has dealt with inconsistencies, particularly with her serve, leading to double faults in previous seasons, but has shown improvement. Sabalenka thrives on hard and grass courts and continues to evolve her shot selection and control. Despite her vocal grunting during matches, which sometimes attracts attention, she remains focused on her game and a fierce competitor on the court.
