Alex de Minaur, born on February 17, 1999, is an Australian professional tennis player who reached a career-high ATP singles ranking of world No. 6 on July 15, 2024. He has also achieved a doubles ranking of No. 58, as of October 12, 2020. De Minaur has won nine ATP Tour singles titles and one doubles title. His impressive clay-court season in 2024 included reaching his first Masters 1000 quarterfinal, where he lost to Novak Djokovic. He also recorded a notable victory over Rafael Nadal in Barcelona but later fell to Arthur Fils in the third round. He faced Nadal again in Madrid, losing in straight sets but fared better in Rome, making it to the fourth round before being defeated by Stefanos Tsitsipas.
At the 2024 French Open, De Minaur, seeded 11th, had a career-best performance at the tournament. He defeated Alex Michelsen, Jaume Munar, and Jan-Lennard Struff to reach the fourth round, then overcame Daniil Medvedev to become the first Australian man to reach the French Open quarterfinals since Lleyton Hewitt in 2004, though he eventually lost to Alexander Zverev. This run helped him return to the top 10. Later in the season, he won his ninth ATP singles title at the Rosmalen Open, becoming the first Australian to do so since 2001. He also reached his first Wimbledon quarterfinal but had to withdraw due to a hip injury. At the US Open, De Minaur continued his strong form, reaching his third consecutive Grand Slam quarterfinal in 2024.
