AUSTRIAN F1 GRAND PRIX TICKETS 2024

All You Need To Know About Austrian F1 GP

The Austrian Grand Prix (German: Großer Preis von Österreich) is a motor racing event sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile. It took place in 1964, from 1970 to 1987, from 1997 to 2003, and then rejoined the Formula One calendar in 2014.

The Austrian Grand Prix has been held at two locations in southeastern Austria. Initially hosted at Zeltweg Air Base, 70 km west of Graz, the event moved to nearby Spielberg in 1969, only 4 km away. Originally called the Österreichring, this permanent track later became known as the A-1 Ring and Red Bull Ring. The first race at Zeltweg in 1963 was a non-championship event won by Jack Brabham. Due to safety concerns, the event moved to the newly built Österreichring in 1970, which hosted the Grand Prix until 1987. After a decade-long hiatus, the race returned to a refurbished track, now called the A-1 Ring, from 1997 to 2003. Revived again in 2014 by Red Bull GmbH, the event continues at the Red Bull Ring.

The 5 Greatest Austrian Grands Prix as the Race Extends Through 2030

1. 2016 – The Hamilton/Rosberg Feud Continues- The 2016 season saw a fierce rivalry between Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. In Austria, weeks after their Spanish Grand Prix collision, Rosberg's one-stop strategy and a timely safety car put him ahead of pole-sitter Hamilton on the final lap.

2. 2019 – Verstappen on the Charge- Despite Mercedes' dominance in 2019, the Austrian Grand Prix provided a glimpse into the future. With Lewis Hamilton's grid penalty, Charles Leclerc started on P1 while Max Verstappen began on P2. However, an anti-stall issue caused Verstappen to drop to eighth at the start.

3. 2003 – Schumacher on Fire!- This race makes the top five not for its thrill or controversy, despite a close finish, but for an incident involving Michael Schumacher en route to victory. Although Austria wasn't Schumacher's favorite track, he secured pole position and quickly pulled away from the pack.
