On March 8, 2017, UEFA announced that Germany and Turkey had both expressed interest in hosting the tournament by the March 3 deadline. The host was chosen via a confidential ballot by the UEFA Executive Committee, requiring a simple majority vote. If votes were tied, UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin would decide. Out of 20 committee members, Reinhard Grindel (Germany) and Servet Yardımcı (Turkey) couldn't vote, and Lars-Christer Olsson (Sweden) was absent due to illness. The host was revealed on September 27, 2018, in Nyon, Switzerland. Germany had earlier considered hosting Euro 2020 but had not confirmed interest by May 2012.
