Team Mascots

Starman and Starlet are the official mascots of the Melbourne Stars. In BBL|05, the Stars introduced a secondary mascot, Steven Seagull, inspired by an incident during a BBL|04 match where a seagull was struck by a cricket ball hit by Perth Scorchers batsman Adam Voges. The seagull lay motionless on the ground, prompting Rob Quiney to carry it gently over the boundary rope. Miraculously, the bird revived and walked along the boundary line, delighting the MCG crowd.

The 2023–24 season of the Big Bash League, also referred to as BBL|13 (sponsored as KFC Big Bash League 2023), marked the thirteenth installment of Australia's premier men's Twenty20 domestic cricket tournament. Commencing on December 7, 2023, and culminating on January 24, 2024, the final saw the Brisbane Heat emerge victorious over the Sydney Sixers, clinching their second BBL title.

Notably, the season featured a reduction in matches compared to recent years, with a total of 44 games, a response to feedback suggesting that the previous 61-match format was excessively lengthy.
