All You Need To Know About Lord’s

Lord's Cricket Ground, often called Lord's, in St John's Wood, London, is named after founder Thomas Lord. Owned by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), it's home to Middlesex County Cricket Club, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), and previously the International Cricket Council (ICC). Known as the "Home of Cricket," Lord's has the world's oldest sports museum. Originally, Lord's Old Ground and Lord's Middle Ground preceded the present location, which can now hold 31,100 spectators after ongoing redevelopment.

Lord's Cricket Ground, founded by Thomas Lord in 1787, has a rich history. Originally located in Dorset Square, it moved twice before settling in St. John's Wood in 1814. Over the years, Lord's has witnessed many historic cricket moments, including its first Test match in 1884. Despite challenges like railway development threats, Lord's has remained a premier cricket venue. During World War I, it supported the war effort while continuing to host cricket matches, including charity events attended by royalty. Overall, Lord's has played a central role in cricket history, evolving to meet the sport's changing demands.

Lord's Ground features stands like the Warner, Grand, Compton, Edrich, Mound, Tavern, and Allen Stands, many rebuilt in the late 20th century. The Media Centre, Pavilion, and Nursery Ground are key elements. The Media Centre, lauded for its design, offers modern facilities for journalists. The Pavilion caters to MCC members with its Long Room and honours boards. The Nursery Ground serves as a practice area and match venue. Lord's also hosts the MCC Museum and Library, home to cricket's treasures, and two gardens: the Coronation Garden and the Harris Garden.
