SCG AFL 2026 TICKETS
About
The Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) has a rich history when it comes to sports, hosting not only world cricket but also becoming New South Wales’ hub for AFL in the 1980s. With 48,000 seats that are regularly filled with Sydney locals and interstate visitors alike, the SCG offers a phenomenal atmosphere with supercharged AFL games to match.
The SCG is the proud home ground of the Sydney Swans and has been since their move from Melbourne in 1982. In the decades since, there are still plenty of fans in Melbourne who fly up to support them, along with a large host of fans in NSW who the Swans earned support from after decades of impressive performances on the field.
Along with seeing the home team, you can enjoy AFL games at the SCG featuring interstate teams, including the 2024 champions the Brisbane Lions. You’ll also have the opportunity to watch the league’s most formidable teams, including Collingwood, Richmond, and Carlton, each of which bring their own brand of gameplay that’s always a thrill to watch. From further afield, you can also see the Swans play the opposite side of the country when they go head-to-head with the West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Dockers.

What are the Best Vantage Points for Watching AFL Games at the SCG?
There are several stands within the SCG that offer solid views of the action. But if you want a good vantage point without having to fork over big money for premium seating, we suggest the following:
- Victor Trumper Stand: Most of this stand provides solid views of the action, especially if you’re located closer to the centre wing of the stand in the mid-to-upper tier seats. There are minimal visual disruptions and you’ll have a solid tactical view of the game. The stand is also largely covered.
- Brewongle Stand: Located towards the southern side of the grounds, the Brewongle Stand is another great spot to get an elevated perspective of the action, allowing you to easily track what’s going on. If you opt for this section, it’s worth considering one of the upper tiers of the stand along the centre wing. It offers a good amount of shade during the day, as well.
- Bill O’Reilly Stand: The Bill O’Reilly Stand is located next to the Victor Trumper Stand, to the west. While it doesn’t offer the same degree of steepness as Victor Trumper (so, less elevation to your view), its location offers good central field visibility. As it’s a smaller stand than others, a good spot to opt for is a few rows back from the front of the stand, around midfield.
What are the New Facilities or Upgrades at the SCG in 2026 that Enhance the AFL Experience?
While there haven’t been major recent upgrades at the SCG, the stadium is in the process of undergoing upgrades to enhance the experience attendees have when visiting.
Of particular note right now is an upgrade that’s not within SCG itself, but a nearby parking area that’s being transformed into a village precinct. For attendees, this will add new green spaces for relaxation, a child’s play area for families, new food and beverage outlets, and an underground carpark that will add up to 1,500 parking spaces. Construction on this village precinct is expected to conclude in 2026.
There are also plans for some grandstand upgrades, but these are still in an assessment phase. However, if upgrades do go ahead, it will modernise some older grandstands and could increase the seating capacity of the SCG from 48,000 to 55,000.
What are the Public Transport Options for Getting to the SCG on Game Days?
Getting to the SCG via public transport is fortunately very straightforward and one of the easiest and most efficient ways of getting to and from the venue. In particular, Sydney’s light rail system is the best option.
The recommended light rail routes are the services to Moore Park (where the SCG is located), on the L2 or L3 Randwick Line. These light rail services can be taken from Central Railway Station, which leave via Chalmers Street. You then take the light rail to the Moore Park Stop, located on Anzac Parade, just south of the SCG.
Walkable city paths can also be taken to get to the SCG.
