The National, an American rock group originally hailing from Cincinnati, Ohio, was established in Brooklyn, New York City, in 1999. The band lineup includes Matt Berninger (vocals), twin siblings Aaron Dessner (guitar, piano, keyboards) and Bryce Dessner (guitar, piano, keyboards), along with brothers Scott Devendorf (bass) and Bryan Devendorf (drums). Although not officially part of the band, Carin Besser, Matt Berninger's wife, has contributed lyrics to the group since their 2007 album, Boxer.

Established by Matt Berninger, Aaron Dessner, Scott Devendorf, and Bryan Devendorf, The National debuted with their self-titled album, "The National," in 2001, released through Brassland Records—an independent label founded by Aaron and his twin brother, Bryce Dessner. The band earned a Grammy nomination for their sixth album, "Trouble Will Find Me" (2013), and won a Grammy for "Sleep Well Beast" (2017).
