Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner CBE, who is recognized by his stage name Sting, was born on 2 October 1951, isan English musician and actor. He served as the frontman, songwriter, and bassist for the new wave band The Police from 1977 until their dissolution in 1986. In 1985, he embarked on a solo career, incorporating a fusion of rock, jazz, reggae, classical, new-age, and worldbeat influences into his musical repertoire.

Recognized both as a solo artist and a member of the Police, Sting has been honored with 17 Grammy Awards, securing Song of the Year for "Every Breath You Take," along with three Brit Awards, including Best British Male Artist in 1994 and Outstanding Contribution in 2002. His accolades also include a Golden Globe, an Emmy, and four nominations for the Academy Award for Best Original Song. In 2019, he achieved a BMI Award for "Every Breath You Take," acknowledged as the most-played song in radio history. 

Additionally, Sting received the Ivor Novello Award for Lifetime Achievement from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers, and Authors in 2002, and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Police in 2003, he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for recording in 2000. Further recognitions include a CBE from Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace in 2003 for services to music, a Kennedy Center Honoree at the White House in 2014, and the prestigious Polar Music Prize in 2017. In May 2023, he was designated an Ivor Novello Fellow.
