All You Need To Know About New Order

Formed in 1980, New Order emerged after the disbandment of Joy Division, following the tragic loss of lead singer Ian Curtis. Vocalist/guitarist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook, and drummer Stephen Morris regrouped and later welcomed Gillian Gilbert on keyboards. Known for blending post-punk with electronic and dance music, New Order became an influential band of the 1980s, associated with Manchester's Factory Records and The Haçienda nightclub. Their collaboration with graphic designer Peter Saville was also a significant aspect of their work.

While initially in the shadow of Joy Division, New Order's immersion in New York's 1980s club scene led them to fuse dance beats and electronic sounds into their music. Their 1983 hit "Blue Monday" became a record-breaking 12-inch single and a club favorite. Throughout the 1980s, albums like "Power, Corruption & Lies" (1983), "Technique" (1989), and the compilation "Substance" (1987) marked their success. After disbanding in 1993 for solo projects, they regrouped in 1998, yet underwent breaks and lineup changes, notably Peter Hook's departure in 2007. Their tenth album, "Music Complete," arrived in 2015. In 2023, both Joy Division and New Order were jointly nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
