All You Need To Know About Loyle Carner
Loyle Carner began his music career with his first official gig supporting rapper MF Doom at The Button Factory in Dublin, Ireland, in October 2012. He released his well-received EP "A Little Late" in September 2014 and toured with American rapper Joey Badass in the UK, hitting festivals like Glastonbury in 2015.
His debut album, "Yesterday's Gone," dropped in January 2017, receiving critical acclaim and earning a Mercury Prize nomination. Despite being scheduled to perform on BBC Radio 1 in 2018, he canceled due to disagreements over cover song choices. Carner's second album, "Not Waving, but Drowning," came out in April 2019, coinciding with his performance at Glastonbury Festival's Other Stage. His track "Angel" made it onto the FIFA 20 soundtrack playlist. In 2020, Carner and his brother co-directed a music video for Arlo Parks' song "Eugene."
Carner's rap style is often described as "languid," and his music falls under the categories of "confessional hip-hop," "introspective," and "jazz-infused," noted for its sensitivity and eloquence. He draws influence from American hip hop, grime, as well as the works of poet Langston Hughes and writer Benjamin Zephaniah.
