Who is Jordan Rakei?

Jordan Rakei (born 23 May 1992) is a New Zealand-Australian musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer, currently based in London. He has also performed under the alias Dan Kye. Rakei's music career began in 2013 with the self-release of his first EPs, *Live at Recording Oasis* and *Franklin's Room*, at the age of 21. In 2014, he gained further recognition with the release of his *Groove Curse EP* on the Soul Has No Tempo label. Shortly after, he relocated to London and collaborated with notable artists such as FKJ and Tom Misch. In 2015, he contributed to Disclosure's track "Masterpiece," earning a Grammy nomination. His debut album *Cloak* was released through his label, 4101 Records, in 2016, followed by the launch of his dancefloor alias, Dan Kye, and the release of his EP *Joy, Ease, Lightness*.

In 2017, Rakei signed with Ninja Tune records, marking a new phase in his career. He released his second album, *Wallflower*, which was shortlisted for Best Australian Album in the 2017 Australian Music Prize. He continued to grow his fanbase with performances at Glastonbury and SXSW, and a North American tour in 2018. His third album, *Origin*, was released in 2019, followed by an extensive world tour. In 2020, he recorded a set for NPR Music's *Tiny Desk Concerts*. His fourth album, *What We Call Life*, released in 2021, saw him exploring more intimate themes, influenced by singer-songwriters such as Joni Mitchell and John Martyn. In January 2024, Rakei announced his fifth studio album, *The Loop*, which was released in May of the same year.
