GORILLAZ AUSTRALIAN TOUR TICKETS
About
Gorillaz is a British virtual band created in 1998 by musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett. The band primarily consists of four animated members: 2-D (lead vocals, keyboards), Murdoc Niccals (bass guitar), Noodle (guitar, keyboards), and Russel Hobbs(drums and percussion).
Their fictional universe is explored through music videos, interviews, and other short cartoons. In reality, Albarn is the only permanent musical contributor and often collaborates with other musicians.
After missing their Splendour In The Grass 2022 opening night, Gorillaz managed to make their way down to Melbourne to kick off their 20th-anniversary tour in Australia. Albarn delivered a sublime show, kicking off with ‘M1 A1’ and then performing fan favourites such as ‘On Melancholy Hill’ and ‘Dirty Harry’.
Given that they are a virtual band, a Gorillaz show does not shy from bright, popping visuals on stage. From brilliant LED setups to dream-like animations that draw you into the music, every part of you feels like you’re hanging with the band. There’s no shortage of energy at any of their concerts, and they always seem to get the crowd off their feet and grooving in no time.

What Was Gorillaz's Most Successful Album?
“Demon Days” was, by and large, Gorillaz’s most successful body of work. Featuring classics like ‘Kids with Guns’, ‘Feel Good Inc.’ and ‘Demon Days’, fans are known to say this album, and we quote, is “practically perfect”.
The album offers a lush blend of instrumentals and lyrics, riding on the strong, visually arresting animations and graphics born from Albarn’s mind. The tracks seamlessly blend together and are definitely a treat for the ears and soul.
Our personal favourite Gorillaz album over at The Ticket Merchant is ‘Plastic Beach’. Call us new age, but we know a masterpiece when we hear it! This concept album absolutely rocked 2010, being one of the first commercial projects of its kind. The LPs’ core was based on the perils of consumerism, with climate change and the need to change our habits supplementing the main thesis. And in true Albarn fashion, the man still made every track an absolute classic. From their thumping bass lines to clean drums, every song off Plastic Beach managed to pull at our heartstrings.
Is Gorillaz Making a New Album?
Gorillaz released their eighth studio album titled "Cracker Island." It was launched on 24 February 2023 through Parlophone and Warner Records and features a range of collaborations with celebrated artists such as Stevie Nicks, Adeleye Omotayo, Thundercat, Tame Impala, Bad Bunny, Bootie Brown, and Beck.
The album has been described as a brand-new studio effort, and it also includes a deluxe edition with additional tracks featuring De La Soul, MC Bin Laden, Del the Funky Homosapien, and Dawn Penn.
This release follows the creative trend Gorillaz is known for, offering fresh sounds and collaborations. The album includes a total of 10 tracks, with Thundercat featuring as the opener. With this latest project, Gorillaz continues to blend their unique mix of instrumentals, lyrics, and animations that define their distinctive style.
At the moment, there is no current information about any upcoming albums beyond "Cracker Island." However, given the band's history of innovation and collaboration, fans can likely look forward to more exciting projects in the future... Maybe even Plastic Beach 2?
What makes Gorillaz unique as a virtual band and how has their concept influenced their live shows?
The concept of a fully animated band is a pretty unusual one, and up until relatively recently, if you saw Gorillaz live in concert, you wouldn’t actually have seen the human influence at all. These days, you’ll have their iconic animated characters playing on the screens behind them, with the musicians front and centre, a strange concept for fans in a lot of ways with many being more familiar with Russell, 2-D, Murdoc and Noodle than they were with seeing Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, the band’s actual human counterparts. A part of what made Gorillaz so unique was the fact they dissolved the boundaries between animation and reality.
This concept didn’t just define their albums, it’s translated to their live performances too. As a result, you’ll get all the sound but also the visuals and that brings the characters and songs to life in a whole new way.
What are the most recognised songs and albums of Gorillaz, and why did they break through globally?
Their combination of hip-hop meets electronic meets pop style and their animated personas immediately set Gorillaz apart. When you hear songs like “Clint Eastwood,” “Feel Good Inc.,” “DARE,” and “On Melancholy Hill” for the first time, they do something to your brain that leaves you wanting more. With catchy hooks, deeper lyrics than their snappy beats would have you initially believe, it was this combination of style musically and visually that set them apart.
Which songs can fans expect at a Gorillaz Australian show, and how does the setlist incorporate collaborations?
While we’re still waiting on official Gorillaz Australian tour dates, based on their recent gigs overseas, the setlist would likely incorporate a healthy mix of the tracks that put them in a spotlight back in the 2000s, along with a host of their more recent releases. Naturally, favourites like “Clint Eastwood,” “Feel Good Inc.” and “DARE,” will make the cut, alongside selections from Plastic Beach and newer material from projects like Song Machine, and Cracker Island. Sometimes you’ll get lucky and see or hear from the artists they’ve collaborated with, giving you an all-encompassing and true to form performance that replicates and enhances their recorded material.
When is Gorillaz expected to tour Australia, and how can fans join the waitlist or get early ticket access?
The last time we saw Gorillaz live here in Australia, it was on a part of a festival tour back in 2022. Fans have been waiting for a while to see them once again and, while we’re currently waiting for fresh dates to drop, if you want to get Gorillaz tickets in Australia, make sure you sign up for the waitlist here at Ticket Merchant. We’ll let you know when there are updates and you can be the first in line to get your hands on tickets.
What does the live concert experience look like for Gorillaz — staging, visuals, guest artists?
With Gorillaz technically being an animated crew made up of Russell, 2-D, Murdoc and Noodle, with the actual vocals and musical elements coming from Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, it’s a super unique experience. You’ll get a rare sighting of the guys themselves, with their animated counterparts in the background. The visuals match the storytelling of their music, making for an absorbing experience that captivates you with audio and visuals.
What are ticket types, VIP options and important information (age limit, merchandise, entry) for Gorillaz in Australia?
Based on past experience, general admission for standing room is always available, along with dedicated seating, with each offering slightly different views and experiences depending on where you book and what the venue is. Until we have official dates and venues for a Gorillaz tour of Australia, we can’t give specific details, but once they’re available, if you want to make a corporate or group booking, you can contact the team at Ticket Merchant and we can help you curate the perfect experience.
