Coldplay are a British rock band formed in 1996 by lead singer and pianist Chris Martin and lead guitarist Jonny Buckland at University College London (UCL). After they formed under the name Pectoralz, Guy Berryman joined the group as bassist, and they changed their name to Starfish. Will Champion joined as drummer and backing vocalist, completing the line-up. Creative director and former manager Phil Harvey is often referred to as the fifth member by the band.

The band renamed themselves Coldplay in 1998 before recording and releasing three EPs: Safety in 1998 and Brothers & Sisters and The Blue Room in 1999. After signing to Parlophone, the Blue Room was their first release on a major label.

Touring History

In 2025, Coldplay is set to embark on their eagerly awaited "Music of the Spheres" Tour across Europe and the UK, following their successful Australian and Asian tour. The band is eagerly anticipating their return home for the UK leg of the tour. Previously, Coldplay undertook the "Head Full Of Dreams Tour," consisting of eight legs and a total of 122 shows in Latin America, Europe, North America, Oceania, and Asia. This remarkable tour commenced on March 31, 2016, at the Estadio Ciudad de La Plata in La Plata, Argentina, and concluded on November 15, 2017, at the same venue. As of now, it ranks as the seventh highest-grossing concert tour in history, amassing a staggering $523,033,675 in revenue. In November 2018, they released a live CD, "Live in Buenos Aires," capturing the essence of the tour, recorded during the final event in La Plata. Additionally, a concert video, "Live in São Paulo," was produced, showcasing performances from around the globe.

The band's eco-friendly measures

Coldplay are taking extra measures to ensure they keep their concerts eco-friendly. They have said they will avoid fossil fuels and use clean energy where possible, will adapt all tour operations to minimise emissions and will select building materials and show effects based on their environmental credentials. Upcoming Coldplay 2025 UK/Europe Tour Events

Coldplay has announced eight UK concerts for the summer of 2025, their only European dates that year. They will perform two shows at Craven Park in Hull before heading to Wembley Stadium in August. A mystery guest is expected to join them, and fans should act quickly to secure tickets, as they are likely to sell out fast. In addition to the 2025 tour, Coldplay has several upcoming performances as part of their Music of the Spheres World Tour, including sold-out shows at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Accor Stadium in Sydney, and Eden Park in Auckland this November 2024. As excitement builds for these concerts and the UK tour, Coldplay continues to attract a global fanbase.
