Born in Chicago, Illinois, Chance the Rapper emerged as a prominent figure in contemporary hip-hop in 2013 with the release of his second mixtape, Acid Rap. The project was met with widespread critical acclaim and played a significant role in establishing his reputation for innovative production, introspective lyricism and independent artistry.
He continued this success with his third mixtape, Coloring Book, released in 2016. The release was both a critical and commercial triumph, earning him three Grammy Awards, including Best Rap Album. In doing so, Coloring Book became the first streaming-only release to win a Grammy Award and went on to peak at number eight on the Billboard 200, marking a milestone in the evolution of the music industry.
