Formed in 1995 in Halmstad, Sweden, Arch Enemy is a melodic death metal band renowned as a supergroup. Its members were previously part of prominent bands such as Carcass, Armageddon, Carnage, Mercyful Fate, Spiritual Beggars, The Agonist, Nevermore, and Eucharist. Founded by Carcass guitarist Michael Amott and Johan Liiva, both of whom were originally from the death metal band Carnage, the group has launched eleven studio albums, three live albums, three video albums, and four EPs. Initially led by Johan Liiva, the band later welcomed German vocalist Angela Gossow in 2000, who, in turn, was succeeded by Canadian vocalist Alissa White-Gluz after Gossow's departure in March 2014, when she transitioned to managing the group.

Recorded at Studio Fredman and released in 1996 by the now defunct Wrong Again Records, Arch Enemy's debut album, "Black Earth," marked their entry into the music scene. Following the release, the band shifted labels, securing a contract with Century Media. In 1998, they unveiled "Stigmata," enlisting bassist Martin Bengtsson and drummer Peter Wildoer. The album garnered increased attention and acclaim in both Europe and America, serving as Arch Enemy's first globally released record.
