METROPOLIS: SOUNDS OF CINEMA AUSTRALIAN TOUR TICKETS

All You Need To Know About Metropolis: Sounds of Cinema

Metropolis: Sounds of Cinema is a contemporary orchestral program presented by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra that explores the relationship between symphonic music and film. The program features works by leading living composers, including Thomas Meadowcraft, Bryony Marks, and David Hirschfelder, with a particular focus on the role of music and sound design in cinematic storytelling. A centrepiece of the concert is Meadowcraft’s innovative concerto, which draws inspiration from Foley—the specialised practice of creating live sound effects for film.

The performance reflects the MSO’s strong commitment to contemporary Australian composition and the evolution of modern orchestral practice. Audiences can expect an immersive concert experience that blends orchestral performance with film-inspired sound worlds, complemented by insights from the composers in conversation with Principal Guest Conductor Benjamin Northey. The program offers a thoughtful exploration of how music and sound contribute to narrative in cinema, presented in a concert hall setting
